A HARVEST STORY BY A GUEST AUTHOR

PIONEER CROSSING – YERINGTON, NV

BY – JAMES ERIC FREEDNER

I have a funny harvesting story from the Pioneer Crossing in out there. You might as well have it, with some Western jargon thrown in here and there, pardner.
When I went to the P. C. last summer (2014), I found all of two tables open (think the casino has four in all). So I moseyed up to one and asked the young lady if I could buy a few dollar and five-dollar chips. And to my happiness, she said, sure! So I bought a good amount (maybe 10 of the $1 and five of the $5), then ambled over to the buffet for dinner. I was growing hungry, it was around 6:30 and I figgered I might not make it back to "civilized" Carson City or Reno in time for their buffets. To my surprise, I found Pioneer Crossing had a decent spread - including crab legs, prime rib, turkey I think, and all the fixin's. I guess it's one of the few such places in town (don't know if Lucky Club offers similar grub). Reasonable prices, too, think it was mebbe $15. And some real cowboys dining there, too!
Well, sir, after dinner, I walked around town a bit, and that's when I sort of sashayed into Dini's and saw their one-armed bandits. So I walked back to Pioneer Crossing to mount up my trusty steed, Tamoca. And the idea hit me, maybe I should try for a $25 chip from Pioneer Crossing, certainly it might be a rarity. So I went to the other table (blackjack) where I saw some green chips and asked that dealer if I could buy one.
"Certainly not!" she retorted (in a voice loud enough for the first dealer and all the players to overhear). "If you buy a chip you have to play it. WE DON'T SELL TO COLLECTORS, EVER!"
And this tenderfoot just sort of limped on outta there...feeling truly hurt - as I had rather generously patronized the establishment. And then rode off into the sunset.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

KONOCTI VISTA CASINO CLEAR LAKE, CA

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

NANCY AND I HAD JUST VISITED THE TWIN PINES CASINO IN MIDDLETON CA, AND WE WERE TRYING TO FIND THE ROAD INTO KONOCTI VISTA. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN THERE YOU WOULD KNOW THERE IS A LOT OF SMALL CITY STREETS TO NAVIGATE. AND WITH THE 32 FOOT RV, IT WAS A LITTLE TRICKY TO SAY THE LEAST. IT WAS STILL MID MORNING WHEN WE WALKED THROUGH THE EMPTY PARKING LOT TO THE CASINO. WE WERE GREETED BY AN EX SAN FRANCISCO LINEBACKER SECURITY GUARD. I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO TABLE GAMES IN PLAY AND THIS PLACE LOOKED A LITTLE INTIMIDATING. NANCY HAD NO PROBLEM, SHE HEADED STRAIGHT INTO THE CASINO TO HER FAVORITE MACHINES. SO I ASKED THE GUARD; IS THERE A MANAGER HERE? HE SAID DO WISH TO SPEAK TO HIM? I SAID YES IF IT ISN’T TOO MUCH TROUBLE. SO I FIDDLED AROUND LOOKING THINGS OVER AND FINDING OUT WHERE NANCY WAS PHYSICALLY IN THE CASINO FOR A FAST EXIT IF NECESSARY.
FINALLY, THE MANAGER SHOWED UP, I GAVE HIM THE NICKEL SPIEL OF A HARVESTING CUSTOMER, AND HE SAID SO ACTUALLY YOU COLLECT AND TRADE CHIPS LIKE I USED TO TRADE BASEBALL CARDS, I SAID THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MANY OF US DO. THAT IS WHY I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE 20 OF THESE, 10 OF THESE, 5 OF THESE, AND 2 OF THESE; AND THEN HE SAID WELL I DON’T SEE WHY WE CAN’T DO THAT. I WILL SEND OUT AN ATTENDANT/DEALER AND BRUNO (SECURITY GUARD) WILL SUPERVISE IT, ALONG WITH THE EYE IN THE SKY AND WE FIX YOU RIGHT UP. IT WILL TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO CHASE SOME ONE DOWN. WE WAITED UNTIL THIS BRIGHT AND CHIRPY YOUNG LADY CAME OUT AND SAID WHAT CAN I GET FOR YOU SIR? I TOLD HER; GAVE HER THE CORRECT CHANGE PLUS A TIP, THEN I LOOKED UP NANCY AND WE MADE OUR EXIT. I DID GET AS MANY AS I NEEDED FROM THIS CASINO, BECAUSE SERIOUSLY FOLK I DO NOT EVER WANT TO GO BACK AGAIN…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

WHY TRADE?

IT IS BY FAR THE MOST ECONOMICAL WAY TO GROW YOUR COLLECTION.
WHEN YOU TRAVEL, BUY SEVERAL CHIPS FROM CASINO’S YOU VISIT, INSTEAD OF ONE OR TWO. BE PARTICULAR WHEN YOU BUY THEM, GET THEM IN THE BEST POSSIBLE CONDITION.
BY DOING THIS YOU WILL BE IN A MORE ECONOMICAL POSTION TO TRADE FOR CHIPS YOU WANT IN YOUR COLLECTION.
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PROPONENT OF TRADING. I AVERAGE 2 OR 3 TRADES EVERY WEEK.
THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF DISCUSSION ABOUT TRADING ON THE CHIPBOARD LATELY. HERE ARE PROBLEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE DO NOT LOOK AT WHILE TRYING TO REASON WHY NO ONE WANTS TO TRADE WITH THEM.
1) WHEN THEY PUT UP IMAGES OF THEIR TRADERS THEY ARE FILTHY DIRTY AND/OR TOTALLY THRASHED.
2) WHEN VISITING A CASINO AND PURCHASING ONLY ONE OR TWO CHIPS YOU ARE NOT INCREASING YOUR TRADE INVENTORY, AND BY NOT INCREASING YOUR TRADE INVENTORY YOU ARE NOT INCREASING YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO TRADE.
3) TRYING TO INITIATE TRADES ONCE EVERY MONTH OR TWO, DOES NOT SERVE YOU WELL EITHER. YOU NEED TO ADVERTISE SO PEOPLE REMEMBER YOU.
4) KEEP LETTING YOUR CHIPPER FRIENDS KNOW THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TRADING.
5) BUILD A NETWORK OF FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES THAT WILL HELP YOU OUT WHEN YOU NEED A CHIP FROM A CERTAIN CASINO.
6) THESE ARE SOME IDEAS THAT I THINK WILL HELP, THAT IS IF YOU WANT TO GROW YOUR COLLECTION
…REGGIE

Let’s Trade

POST CARDS FROM NEVADA

I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING POST CARDS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND HAVE SOME PRETTY COOL ONES. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE THING TO DO; SHARING THEM. NOT QUITE READY TO START SELLING THEM. ( THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I HAVE DUPLICATES THEY ARE FOR SALE AND WILL HAVE A PRICE ALONG WITH THEIR TITLES). THAT BEING SAID; SHOULD YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES THAT IS NOT PRICED, FEEL FREE TO MAKE ME AN HONEST OFFER.…REGGIE

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie

VIEJAS (YOT DRAGON) SET OF 5 STACKABLES ALPINE, CA $49

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I STARTED HAVING A GUEST AUTHOR AND HIS/HER HARVEST STORY AS OFTEN AS I COULD.
AT THIS WRITING I ONLY HAVE 35 STORIES TO SHARE. I AM HOPING THAT A FEW MORE AUTHORS WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE, AND THESE VERY PROLIFIC “CHIPPERS” WILL COME UP WITH A FEW MORE. I WILL RE RUN THESE STORIES THROUGH THE COMING YEAR. AND ADD STORIES AS THE POD ROLLS ALONG.
THESE STORIES ARE ALWAYS INFORMATIVE AND USUALLY HAVE A BIT OF TONGUE AND CHEEK HUMOUR.
LET’S SHARE WITH OTHERS DIFFERENT WAYS OF HARVESTING, THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS THAT WE HAVE FACED OUT THERE WHILE WE WERE HARVESTING.
THANKS FOR READING THIS LITTLE INFO-MERCIAL.
