A HARVEST STORY BY A GUEST AUTHOR

DEUCES WILD CARD ROOM – AUBURN, CA

By JAMES ERIC FREEDNER

When the Towers Card Room opened in Grass Valley one July weekend a couple of years back - I drove up there and stopped off at Deuces Wild which is located on a frontage road off I-80 west of Auburn proper. The casino was closed. A stack of last month's "Card Player" magazines was dumped at the doorstep, and some junk mail sat in the mailbox. The parking lot in front of the casino is paved (part of a small shopping plaza) and the rear lot was gravel. I walked around the lots, looking for any dropped chips. Rarely does this result in a find, but I have found chips often enough to give it a try. But, nothing at all.
On the way back from Towers, I stopped by again, it was around 6 or 7 PM by then and I figured the casino would be "open for the night." But, no. It dawned on me that the place looked closed for good, which turned out to be the truth. Missed it by a couple of months, at most.
Deuces Wild no longer has a current license and I don't know what happened to the building. And where are the chips, you ask? I have no idea! I bought one, a couple of years ago, think it came up on eBay, and I have seen exactly one other such chip since then, in a dealer's album at some show (maybe the February Super Show). Somebody must be "sitting on" at least a thousand of them, but apparently very few got out of the casino while it was in operation; I'd estimate maybe a dozen or two. The truly odd thing is that Deuces Wild is such a "modern" casino, one would think the Sacramento area collectors would have gotten a bunch out.
Its closure was sudden. Rumor had it that the place couldn't compete with all the Indian casinos in the area, but there must have been more to that story.
If you manage to turn up a Deuces Wild from your ChipBoard request, you will truly be One Lucky Reggie. I will keep an eye out for that chip but, I don't really expect to see it again soon.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

KLA-MO-YA CASINO CHILOQUIN, OREGON

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND THE OREGON COAST WE VENTURED INLAND TO THE NATIONAL PARK AT CRATER LAKE. WE SPENT THE BETTER PART OF A MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON TAKING IN THE AWESOME BEAUTY OF THIS NATIONAL PARK. THEN WE HAD THE TASK OF NEGOTIATING THE DOWNHILL SIDE, THE SOUTHERN END THAT TOOK US TO THE KLA-MO-YA CASINO.
I HAVE TO SAY, I DO NOT REMEMBER THAT MUCH ABOUT THIS CASINO. IT WAS SMALL, BUILT LIKE A HUNTING LODGE, BUT VERY COMFORTABLE. WHEN I WAS READY TO ASK FOR CHIPS AT THE CAGE, I WAS PRETTY SURE OF WHAT THE ANSWER WAS GOING TO BE; I WAS RIGHT; GO TO THE TABLES FOR THE CHIPS.
NANCY WAS BUSY AT THE MACHINES, AND WE HAD TO FIND A RV PARK BEFORE IT GOT DARK SO, I SAT DOWN AT THE BLACKJACK TABLE AND COMMENCE TO PASS THE TIME. I COULDN’T GET ANYWHERE ON THE 21 TABLE BUT I WAS BREAKING DOWN THE CHIPS TO WHAT I NEEDED, THE $1 CHIPS; AND ALL THE TIME STAYING EVEN. STAYING EVEN IS WINNING IN MY BOOK. I GREW TIRED OF THE BLACKJACK TABLE, AND GATHERED UP NANCY ON THE WAY OUT I ASK THE SECURITY GUARD ABOUT RV PARKS, HE SAID THERE IS AN OREGON STATE RV PARK ABOUT 6 MILES NORTH OF HERE. THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD WE THOUGHT, IT WAS RELATIVELY CHEAP AS WELL, WE WERE ABLE TO SET UP SHOP AND HAVE OUR EVENING MEAL BEFORE IT GOT DARK AS WELL.
MEANWHILE BACK AT THE CASINO, I HAD LEFT THERE WITH MORE CHIPS THAN I NEEDED, AND I WAS HAPPY WITH THAT, YES I DID GET PLENTY…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

POST CARDS FROM NEVADA

I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING POST CARDS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND HAVE SOME PRETTY COOL ONES. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE THING TO DO; SHARING THEM. NOT QUITE READY TO START SELLING THEM. ( THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I HAVE DUPLICATES THEY ARE FOR SALE AND WILL HAVE A PRICE ALONG WITH THEIR TITLES). THAT BEING SAID; SHOULD YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES THAT IS NOT PRICED, FEEL FREE TO MAKE ME AN HONEST OFFER.…REGGIE

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie
