A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

COMMERCE CASINO

By: J ERIC FREEDNER

Hi, Reggie,

Here's a recent chipping adventure for you.

Last week I stopped in at the Commerce Casino in search of more of their most elusive $5 Year of the Rooster chips. Nothing to be found or spotted on the tables, but the Cashier in the Fill Cage offered to look through some of her racks for them. She said to come back in about five minutes. It was around midnight and I'm always superstitious about hanging out in cardrooms during late night hours. But I wandered around a bit, watched a spirited Baccarat game or two, and then returned to the Fill Window.

Ahead of me, a casino runner turned in a stack of $100 bills for chips. The Cashier looked through them, came to one bill, and shook her head. The mark left by the dealer's security pen showed brownish, not invisible. Then she felt the bill (apparently too smooth). Next she held up the bill to look for the hologram. Either there was none, or it was in some way defective. A counterfeit!! Then she tore the bill just a bit to see how the paper split - it didn't act like real banknote paper (a lot harder to tear). She made a quick phone call to someone. Asked the runner what table he had picked up the money from, and told him to go back there. From my position in line behind the runner, I got a pretty good look at the banknote in question - an older style green $100 with large portrait of Benjamin in the middle, not the newer colored-ink variety.

He left and I just said, "Bad money?" And the cashier said, "Yes, sometimes happens. I didn't find any Rooster chips."

This was not the time to wait around. I could just imagine Casino Security, the Commerce Sheriff's Deputies, and the FBI all converging on the Fill Room within five minutes, and maybe bringing the cuplrit to the window too. So I hustled out, Rooster-less for now.

J. Eric

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

FOND DU LUTH CASINO DULUTH, MN

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

ON THE FIRST TRIP UP TO THE BATTLE CREEK SHOW IN MICHIGAN, NANCY AND I STOPPED AT THE BLACK BEAR CASINO OVER NIGHT. AND GOT AN EARLY START ON THE NEXT DAY, BY NOON WE WERE IN THE BEAUTIFUL PORT CITY OF DULUTH, MN. I WAS REALLY CAPTIVATED BY THIS CITY. WE PULLED INTO A PARK AREA ABOVE THE CITY SO WE COULD SEE IT FROM ALL ANGLES. IT WAS AWESOME. WHEN WE HAD ENOUGH OF DRINKING IN THE SHEAR BEAUTY OF THE AREA, WE GOT OUT OUR GPI AND SET OUR SITES ON THE FOND DU LUTH CASINO.
FOND DU LUTH CASINO WAS DOWN TOWN, FOR AN INDIAN CASINO THIS IS A BIT UNUSUAL. http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=MNDUFD THE PAGE ON THE CHIP GUIDE PAGE HAS A GOOD PICTURE OF THE CASINO.
WE HAD A BIT OF A PROBLEM FINDING PARKING, BUT WE NEEDED THE EXERCISE AND THE STORES DOWNTOWN WERE OPEN SO WE ENJOYED THE WALK AND THE WINDOW SHOPPING ALONG THE WAY.
AFTER DALLYING ABOUT FOR A HALF AN HOUR WE FINALLY GOT TO THE CASINO. IT WAS THREE LEVELS, I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE FIRST TWO, BUT MOST OF THE GAMING WAS ON THE THIRD FLOOR, OF WHICH; I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO. THEY HAD ONE BLACK JACK TABLE OPEN WHEN WE GOT THERE ABOUT 1PM IN THE AFTERNOON. SO I LOOKED AROUND A BIT, AMUSED MYSELF WATCHING NANCY PLAY THE SLOTS. I FINALLY WENT BACK TO THE BLACK JACK TABLE AND SAID WHILE THEY WERE IN ACTION, I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY BUT COULD I BUY SOME CHIPS? I WAS PREPARED WITH THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF CASH IN THE CORRECT DENOMINATIONS. THE DEALER SAID CAN YOU WAIT UNTIL I SHUFFLE? I SAID, OF COURSE, AND I WAITED THE FEW MINUTES FOR THE SHUFFLE. THAT TOOK ONLY A FEW MINUTES, AND WITH THE HARVEST BEING EASY, WE TOOK FLIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AGAIN. EVERY TIME I WRITE ABOUT GOING DOWN THE ROAD AGAIN, I THINK OF “WILLIE NELSON’S SONG, ON THE ROAD AGAIN”. LOL
YES, ID DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS ON THIS HARVEST…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

REVERSE OR BACK SIDE IMAGES

I have not had any complaints about not showing the reverse or back of chips with two images. Most people are resourceful enough to go to the Chip Guide, Collection Library, or other Chip Info sites; of which picture images are available.
Everyone should know that I will furnish the opposite side that does not appear on the “Page A Day” image. You only need to send an email and identify the number of the chip you would like see the other side of.
In most cases, I should get it back to you on the same day.
If I only have one of the item requested it will be two images. If I have at least two, it will be sent with both images in the same scan.
Hope this helps some of you out.

POST CARDS FROM NEVADA

I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING POST CARDS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND HAVE SOME PRETTY COOL ONES. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE THING TO DO; SHARING THEM. NOT QUITE READY TO START SELLING THEM. ( THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I HAVE DUPLICATES THEY ARE FOR SALE AND WILL HAVE A PRICE ALONG WITH THEIR TITLES). THAT BEING SAID; SHOULD YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES THAT IS NOT PRICED, FEEL FREE TO MAKE ME AN HONEST OFFER.…REGGIE

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie
