final post on this topic.
I believe everyone needs to take a breath and step back to examine what started all this.
Jim Kruse worked tirelessly for months in order to secure a speaker for the convention that people will find interesting and talk about the history of old Vegas. As I said previously, I an very happy with the choice and cant wait to see what Mr. Culotta has to say.
Jim made a post announcing the speaker on the club board and then made a post on the chipboard asking people to look to the club board for more info.
Mr. Caven soon chimed in with his very first post on the topic asking "How many people did he murder".
Jim made a civil reply.
Apparently Steve didn't get what he was looking for so he then made another post stating "Disgusting Choice of Speaker"
Again Jim made a civil reply
Now keep in mind that neither of these posts expressed a simple difference of opinion or any reasoning behind why Steve felt that way. Just negative comments in response to Jims informational post.
Steve apparently was not satisfied with his responses so he then decided to lecture Jim and other club members on the clubs COE (Something that would not even apply to a speaker who is not a member).
That's when things started to go south, which it seems is where Steve was looking to go.
Jim made some derogatory statements which probably shouldn't be said and Steve's reply's just egged him on with a few choice comments of his own. Neither one came off like an angel and its ridiculous to think that one was.
Now while I don't agree with the way Jim handled this, as I stated in a previous post, I do understand it based on reasons not discussed here. Being under the stress he has been handling and seeing that he was somewhat goated into replying, I can see how things escalated.
Now as I have said earlier, everyone is entitled to an opinion. However its not always proper to post an opinion even if one has a right to do so. For example if someone were to post a picture of their kids achievements and how proud they were and I were to come out and say how dumb that was, it would be wrong.
I would have every right according to the rules of the chipboard to come out and post my opinions, but just because I have the right to have a differing opinion, doesn't mean its right to share it. Especially if I came out and said it in an ugly way.
While I have the ability and right to express my opinion, saying something like that would be wrong.
Along the way Ed Hertel added his opinion and Steve claimed he was attacked.
Gene Trimble offered his opinion and Steve claimed he was attacked.
Joel B offered his opinion and Steve claimed he was attacked
I offered my opinions and Steve claimed he was attacked
John Benedict even AGREED with Steve, and he felt like he was attacked.
I don’t believe any of the people above actually attacked Mr. Caven, but instead offered their own opinions in a way much easier to explain than the way Mr. Cavens first few posts read.
Another topic I wish to discuss is what and where club "Officials" as Mr Caven calls them can say.
I believe that all those that represent the club should act and post appropriately while in a position of representing the club on the club board or at a club event.
I am also a firm believer in the fact that just because someone volunteers for the club, they shouldn’t lose their right to their own opinions.
Just because someone happens to be the Educational Director for the club, when he posts on the chipboard without using that title, he should be able to post his own opinions that may not represent those of the club.
A HOF member who posts on the chipboard should not be expected to represent all HOF members with everything they post.
This post in which I am not using any title, represents my own personal opinions and is not representative of a club stance on any topic.
If you expect every person holding a position with the club to no longer be able to express their own personal opinion, we are being unfair to those that work the hardest to make the club succeed.
In closing I wanted to say that my wishes for feelings of peace are sincere. I wish peace for my friends as well as those that may be my enemies. I want only the best for everyone, especially those that seem to have issues with anger.
Steve seems to have issues with a LOT of people and things. I hope he finds peace with all these things and I wish him only the best.
I have attempted my best to not be insulting in this explanation and sincerely wish you nothing but the best as well.
