601 So. 4th St.
Camden, NJ
275 chips - 1937
The address is for the Sciamanna Cafe. It was started as a soda shoppe selling "soft drinks" during Prohibition. The owner, George Sciamanna, later changed his name to Sherman, so the cafe was also called Sherman's Cafe. When this happened is unclear. One source said after WWII, but the chip order is for a Dominick "Sherman" so I think it was probably sooner, although the sign out front was still "Sciamanna" in 1941.
The cafe was a hangout for underworld types like Marco Reginelli, who would expand his influence out of Camden and into the Atlantic City area.
