Andy was an owner of the old Gardena Club - an expert poker player - and accomplished on the accordion. In this latter role, he came to my roommate Larry's recording studio here on various occasions to put down some tracks. I met him several times but it was only this year that I realized he was a Casino Star as well. Andy was 88 and suffered from various illnesses for some years but lung cancer eventually claimed him.

Interesting tidbit for chip collectors: reasoning that card players might like some sort of lucky emblem on the Gardena Club chips, Andy followed his wife's advice - and asked T. R. King to put the outline of a four-leaf clover on them. CG# 035454, 035465, etc.

Several months ago, I pulled a worn 25¢ Gardena Club chip from my collection and asked Larry to show it to Andy when he came over. Larry reported that Andy got a kick out of seeing "his" old chip one more time! -- and expressed surprise that people actually had an interest in collecting such things.
