Dan, what I've found out in the last 16 years of chip collecting is this:
This is NOT a cheap hobby, unless you find a great deal on a collection, you are going to have to invest money to support a good collection. Yes, if you only collect current $1.00 chips and can make it to casinos to pick up the chips yourself, it can be a fairly cheap hobby.
I personally believe that trading is an art form, I know people who make out well trading while others end up loosing on the deal. I would guess that 65% of the trades I've made over the years I felt like the other person got a better deal....and that's why I don't do much trading. I'm sure if I traded more, I would be better at the art.
I think there is a collecting lifecycle:
You start up a collection
pick up mass
maintain the collection
then sell off the collection
I would say a great many of the people on the board are at the "maintain" or "sell off" part of the lifecycle. So if you are a buyer, it's great, if you looking to trade, I'm sure it's much tougher to make a deal.
So Dan, here's what I would do:
Find a free website and post your traders so everyone can see what you have (and maintain the webpage).
You need to give a better understanding what you're looking for.....pictures of chips that you want works much better that "Obsolete Nevada Chips"
Start the round robins up again and see if you can get more people to join the round robin. I personally would ask for feedback from the last one to see what you can do to make it better.
Stay positive because sometimes getting what you want at a cheap price is going to take longer than spending the money when you first see it.
Good luck.
