First off, the club has no business spending extra money to make sure people vote. That is the members responsibility.
Secondly, why on earth would this club want to promote a total member voting when CLEARLY most members don't care and wouldn't be making an informed decision? Think about it. Unless you are regular visitor to this board, you probably have no idea what is going on in the governance of this club.
I'd be willing to bet that 60-75% of the members of this club care only about collecting a few chips, reading their nice magazine and getting on with their lives. They don't know who the candidates are. They don't know what the issues are. Do you really want these people checking a box on a ballot and decided who is going to run things?
If you ask me, if only 15% of the membership takes the time to be active enough to get involved, I say fine. Let the informed 15% make the decisions. Clearly the other 85% don't mind going along for the ride.
Making it too easy to vote isn't the answer. If you ask me, the system "ain't broke".
