While Ralph is correct, the subject matter was about silver dollars, but the connection (or link) to our hobby was the main story about a casino owner, Bill Harrah, who altered the surfaces of the dollars in the hopes it would prevent collectors from taking the dollars home with them as souvenirs. (much like collectors today take home casino chips). The photos in the article were provided by CC & GTCC life member, Rusty Goe of Reno.
I would like to compliment Editor Robb McPherson for publishing this very informative article in the current issue of "Casino Collectible News". Silver dollars used in casinos prior to 1964 were an integral historical segment of our developing hobby.... and so was the part that legendary Bill Harrah played, which is what the article was all about. I was not aware of this history about Harrah's. Other readers will have to judge for themselves if this article was appropriate for publication in our club magazine. I would like to hear other's opinions.
