A few weeks ago, Armin Pfaender gave me a "challenge:" to find something about the old illegals of Arbuckle. He especially wanted to know about Tex's and Tuffy's. And while I rarely get up to that city, strange things happened; my tenants in Yreka bailed and left the house a shambles, and I had to drive up there to inspect and make whatever small repairs I could over an all-too-short Labor Day weekend. And so, I found myself returning on Sunday evening through Arbuckle ....
Exited I-5 onto Fifth Street, the main street of that little town. Drove around a bit and then . . . I spotted it! Tex's Tavern, big as life!! 513 Fifth Street, Arbuckle CA 95912.
I got up the courage to walk in . . . there was nobody in the place except for a man who quickly walked into the kitchen, and a lady, eating supper at the bar. Obviously the barkeeper. I asked her, did they ever have a cardroom in the place, and she replied, somewhat hesitantly (probably figuring me for a cop), yes, once, but years ago. I explained my interest in casino chips and did she know what sort of chips were used there? She replied, they didn't use chips, they had wooden free-drink tokens. Her father left her one and she's not about to part with it. All the other tokens were discarded a long time back.
I asked if the bar was the same as Tuffy's and she said, no, Tuffy's was located a block up Fifth Street. At one time Arbuckle had 7 or 8 bars and "illegal things were done at some of them." The town was known as "Barbuckle" for all its alcohol consumption. I thanked her for the information and left, with the uneasy feeling that the man in the kitchen was spying on me - well, whoever heard of a woman alone in a bar talking with a total stranger.

THIS HARVEST WAS WHILE I WAS STILL LIVING IN TENNESSEE. NANCY AND I HAD DECIDED ON LONG WEEKEND IN BILOXI-GULFPORT. I HAD HEARD THAT THE SOUTHERN COLLECTORS CLUB WAS MEETING IN GULFPORT AT THE ISLAND VIEW CASINO FOR A TRADING SESSION AND MEETING.
WE HAD RESERVED TWO NIGHTS AT A WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE THE LOCAL FLEA BAG MOTEL ON THE MAIN DRAG INTO GULFPORT JUST OFF THE I-10 INTERSTATE.
AFTER THE MEETING AND TRADE SESSION, NANCY AND I DECIDED TO TAKE A TOUR OF AS MANY OF THE CASINOS WE COULD GET TO; AND HARVEST FROM. ONE OF THESE WOULD BE THE BOOMTOWN CASINO IN BILOXI.
THIS WAS VERY UNFORTUNATE FOR ME BECAUSE OF ALL CASINOS I HAVE HARVESTED, I HAVE NEVER BEEN FLEECED AT THE POKER TABLE SO QUICKLY AND SO SMOOTHLY. THESE GUYS WERE VERY EFFICIENT AT THEIR CRAFT. THE TRIP, THE MEETING-TRADE SESSION WERE EXTREMELY PRODUCTIVE. THE POKER TABLE AT THE BOOMTOWN, TOTALLY NEUTRILIZED THE PLUSES OF THE TRIP. WELL, NOT COMPLETELY, IT WAS JUST A COUPLE OF BILLS LATER (IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS) I WAS PULLING UP STAKES FROM THE NIGHT LIFE OF BILOXI. I HAD HARVESTED ENOUGH AWAY IN MY PANTS POCKETS, FOR MY TRADE INVENTORY AND COLLECTION AND WAS HAPPY WITH THAT PART. I WAS UPSET AT MYSELF FOR STAYING SO LONG AT A BAD POKER TABLE. NANCY CAME BY AND SAID THESE SLOTS ARE STINGY ARE YOU READY? BOY WAS I, SO WE MADE A VERY QUICK DEPARTURE, BACK TO THE MOTEL FROM HELL, FOR A LITTLE SLEEP AND AN EARLY MORNING DEPARTURE BACK TO TENNESSEE.
ONE THING I DID NOT FIND IS THE CHIPCO LIGHT HOUSE, THEY ARE STILL HARD TO FIND.
I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS FOR MY COLLECTION AND PLENTY OF TRADERS FOR THE FUTURE…REGGIE

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie
If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

HAVE YOU EVER RUN INTO THIS?
*THIS IS A COLLECTION OF VERY FRUSTRATING SCENERIOS THAT HAVE ACTUALLY HAPPENED. IF YOU CARE TO SEND SOME ADDITIONAL OCCURANCES AND HOW YOU TOOK CARE OF IT. PLEASE DO.[b/]
If you can, please; help out with some solutions to these.
• You initiate a trade or the party in question initiates a trade; and after a while and exhausting all avenues, you realize that the other party is just jacking you around, never was serious about it, reneges on his/her word, with draws original offer, or just quits answering your email. This was a CC-GTCC member.
• Are contacted through the Chipboard or other means; for a trade but the trader insists on you shipping the agreed upon trade items first, but; cannot give you references of previous trades with other CC-GTCC members. And makes the statement this is the way I always do it.
• Asked to hold something, with a promise of payment, that never comes?
• Been told after paying the seller in full; that your chips were mailed to someone else by mistake. This is usually a scam to buy time, because they may or may not have them to begin with? They possibly were waiting for your money to float themselves a loan.
• Been the victim of receiving, very dirty, damaged, chips that were not described as such? Should you have to put up with a buyer beware policy that has just been laid on you?
• Received orders from brand new, or novice collectors and have had to try to educate them in the short while of processing their order, tactfully? There is a lot of things that can go wrong during this transaction. Can use some pointers on this one myself.
• Been asked to re-ship non casino/chip related items internationally?
• Sold an item on the Chipboard and then marked it sold, only to be notified by the buyer they have changed their mind.
• Sent an email to a seller on the Chipboard requesting information, asking a question about “a for sale item”, or listing an item that you are looking for; and/or any other informational quest? And never get a response? (Both you and the person in question are CC-GTCC members)
• Make an error and been accused of being a hustler by a “non-member” of the CC-GTCC?
• Been taken advantage of by another member?
• Been approached for a trade, meanwhile the same person is trying to trade with others for the same items.
• Been a recipient of a “phishing expedition” email? With very nice chips as bait?
• Answered a post on the CB only to discover you are a late responder. This is not so bad, but to find out that you not only are late but the 3rd or 4th, to respond. Wouldn’t be nice for the Poster to let everyone know this on the CB?
• I made an order and paid for it (pay pal)on the 1st of the Month…after inquiring if and when the order was shipped, I was told that the order was shipped yesterday that he was a day late getting it out. “Yesterday” was the 6th of the month the same day he got my inquiry, not even close to the day it was paid for
• Had someone request an item(s) that have a time dated offer connected to it, and not come through with a payment, disallowing other patrons the opportunity to purchase those items?Had your email addresses hacked and had a phony request for funds sent out to all your friends?
Will be adding bullets as they occur or are submitted to me …Reggie
MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie
