The plaque you showed is really a tough color to scan and get any detail to show. For some reason oranges and reds just seem to bleed together in a photo. I scanned a plaque and photographed the same side with some skimming light. Don't get me wrong. Scan is not a four letter word but, I feel you get more detail with the side lighting.
