I recently got this yellow B.P.O.E. 309 clay chip (below the two Monarch mold chips) from Jerry Birl.
I got the chip because it appears to have an embossed edge mold that is not listed on Robert Eisenstadt’s chip edge mold website. Eisenstadt has listed several similar but clearly different edge molds on this page of his website: http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/molddesign_other.htm
The chip is probably closest to the Monarch/Raised Circle edge mold, which has a couple of variations, but unlike the “Raised Circle” edge mold variations, the recessed circular ridge is square and flat. In other words, there is no tire inner tube-like bump.
This chip also has record-like ridges (which you can only barely see in the photos) unlike all of the Monarch chips that I have seen. It actually only has the record-like ridges on the inner portion of the chip, similar to the Zig-Zag & Circles edge mold, to the left of the yellow chip below. I’ve included an examples of the “Small Circles” and “Large and Small Circles” chip edge molds above it, because I think these are the only other chips which have similar circular ridges.
Finally, the chip has rounded edges, unlike (I think) most other chips made by the Burt Company, but similar to many of the crest and seal chips with rounded edges made by the United States Playing Card Company. Which company do you think made it?
I am probably missing something simple, but I wanted to ask the collective wisdom of The Chip Board about this chip.
Thanks,
Jeff Bass (aka Jeff in Iowa)
