In the last 12 years at my job, I have had the opportunity to interact with some of the most famous people in the world. For example, I chatted with Guy Laliberte a few weeks after he returned from the International Space Station. Many of those people have a public persona that doesn't always match up with them when the lights and cameras aren't on. This is usually a pleasant surprise.
Eric Hilton was truly a gentleman that had lived an amazing life. From dealing to, and playing with him, I got a brief look into that life. For someone with one of the most recognizable family names, you would never know it. Truly one of the nicest, down to earth people you could ever meet.
I last saw Eric a couple of weeks ago. Although his health had deteriorated, he was still sharp mentally. He could still pull off a check raise bluff. I might have the wording wrong but Eric had a cool plaque he'd bring with him recently. It said "I may taker longer to shuffle but I'm still playing with a full deck."
Vegas, and the world, has lost a great gentleman.
