post, I will address each one of them below in sections.
1) You say "Article 6 is there for a reason"
Yes it is and it has been used numerous times already in the past. In fact just this year we changed it based on a submission from a member and a membership vote
My comment stated that as currently shown in the clubs constitution, many of the recommendation you have made are not available to us.
2) You state "I think you would be surprised how many members would vote to save our club instead of resorting to article seven."
WHO is talking about article 7? There has been absolutely no thought on our part of Dissolution of the club and in my mind the club will always exist. Are suggesting that unless we follow your suggestions the only option is to kiss the club goodbye and break it up? We currently have several hundred LIFE members so even if we loose over 1,000 members we will STILL have a club.
3) You ask "As the President, what is the plan for increasing membership in your eyes? What has been tried and has failed? What has worked well, can we repeat it?"
The plan for increasing membership is consistently coming up with and implementing new ideas to both stop the decrease in current membership and attract new members.
I personally believe the best chance we have for attracting new members is thru the MOGH and with more viability thru exhibits as well as hopefully a full blown museum one day we can expose the hobby to more people who many not be aware of it. I have said that numerous times before both here on the boards and in the magazine.
We listen and discuss all suggestions from our membership and many of them have been put in place or at least tried.
We run membership drives and ask every one of our members to do what they can to recruit others. As far as me personally I believe I was recruiter of the year last year and plan to repeat again this year if I can.
We run adds on Ebay with information on the club and ask our members to do the same.
We have started a facebook page, Twitter account and instagram account in order to reach those online. Although this hasn't been as effective as I had hoped, we just appointed a new Social Media Director and hope things turn for the positive.
We send out "We want you back" postcards to former members"
We send out information packages to all convention attendees that are not currently members inviting them to join the club.
We set up tables at other collectable events like ANA shows and pass out magazines and membership applications.
Many things have been tried over the years and those that work we keep doing. Those that dont work we phase out and opt towards other things instead.
4) You say "At the club business meeting this year there was no plan reported under the membership report."
You are correct. There was also a request for questions and I dont remember you asking that question at that time.
If you would like, I will ask our membership officer to include some comments on membership plan for future meetings.
5)You ask "What are our goals for this year?"
Currently our number one goal is to stop the decrease in membership and stop or at least decrease the decline in membership. Once that has happened, we can develop goals on added membership each year.
6) You state "We are a all volunteer organization, are we just happy someone is doing a job for us… no matter what the results?
The answer to that is no we are not happy when someone volunteers to do a job and doesnt live up to the expectations of that position. With that being said we understand that these people are volunteers and we cant treat them like paid employees. If we have problems with the job someone is doing, we discuss replacing that position with someone else (IF THERE IS SOMEONE ELSE AVAILABLE)
With that being said we appreciate ALL our volunteers and even those we aren't elated with, we STILL appreciate everything they do.
7) You ask "Has the BOD decided against my suggestion of bringing in a unaffiliated 501c3 organizational specialist to do a health report on our organization."
The answer to that question is yes. The BOD felt it an unnecessary expense to bring in a specialist to tell us we need more members as we already know that.
8) You state "I have always thought we need a full time effort from someone running the day to day duties of the club, a (((DIRECTOR))) to help organize the volunteer work."
Hmm, I vaguely remember you mentioning that before. I think one BOD meeting there were 11 agenda items with your name on it"
9) You ask "If we can't "hire" someone because that changes something "conceptually" about the club… lets create a job description and see if we have any volunteers for the position."
Its not a matter of changing something its a matter of costs. We simply dont have $10-$20 to in our opinion just waste in paying someone to do what we already do with the BOD.
I am not even sure a position like that would violate our current constitution but we can bring it up for discussion.
I personally wouldn't be opposed to having someone do that as a volunteer but unfortunately you have no idea how hard it is to find volunteers these days.
We have a constant battle in finding people to replace current positions and sometimes have to look years before we can replace someone.
Just to point out, the club did try what we called a "Planning Committee" on several occasions which in effect would do the same thing. Unfortunately those efforts never went anywhere.
Hope that helps answer your questions and now I am off to resolve other pending club issues.
