So many memories.
In the 1960s they had a "gambler's special" flight on DC3s from Burbank CA to Hawthorne - $10 and you got airfare 'round trip overnight (around 6pm to 6am), ground transportation and a $10 meal chitty.
They served a chopped beef steak smothered with mushroom gravy on a wood plank (it was good, but unsanitary).
The noisy old planes were full of low-roller degenerates.
Some folks would walk over to the Green Front for a roll in the hay ($10 up).
One night during the winter the airplane never returned and the wreckage was not discovered until the spring thaw. I dodged that bullet. That was the end of the gambler's special at the ElCap!
