Re: 15 Fremont Street...La Bayou grin

The last cut & paste...with some changes.

La Bayou, 1999-2016:

In 1999 the Coin Castle Casino was transformed into La Bayou. Though the name and the decor changed, there were still girls giving out beads and trying to get you into the casino to play. Other than the Golden Gate, this small joint was the last gambling left on this block, on this side of the street. The rest of the block is souvenir stores. In 2016 The Stevens brothers, owners of The D (formerly Fitzgeralds), and the Golden Gate, bought LaBayou, Mermaids, and Glitter Gulch.

LaBayou closed on June 27, 2016.

We were in Las Vegas last month, and I took these pictures:

Silly me...I thought they had the scaffolding up so they could de-theme the building.

A few days ago I got an email that included an image of what it looked like last week...which was NOTHING! It's gone. The building that housed the first licensed casino in Las Vegas is now an empty space under the Fremont Street Experience canopy. And that was the point of this thread...a small tribute/memorial to the casinos that have occupied the building over the years...

Pictures of the destruction can be found on the Vital Vegas blog page linked below:
