Dear Jim et al,
It’s always nice to hear a compliment on my work. Thank you.
But that being said, a compliment that comes at the expense of others lessens its value.
We all need to keep in mind that we are hobbyists and volunteers. We aren’t curing cancer here. We are having fun. At least that’s what I am doing and I think most of us are. I spend a lot of time on my website for only two reasons. I enjoy it and I want to share my hobby with others.
My site has no connection to the CC>CC except as an outside source to direct more people to its existence. In an upcoming site wide update I’ll have links to the CC>CC, the MOGH, and the ChipGuide on every page. I hope in some small way to direct people who don’t know of their existence to the sites.
My site has, on average, between 500 and 1000 visitors a week and to me that is very gratifying for a site that is so narrow in scope and does not feature even one member of the Kardashian family.
When I use the term “my site" you might be interested to know that Over50Vegas.com wouldn’t exist without the help of Pam G.
From day one she was there offering encouragement, proof reading, access to her bottomless collection, her near encyclopedic knowledge of downtown Las Vegas, and advice on which direction to go in next. There are also several other very quiet people who do the same but to a lesser extent. They are folks you seldom hear from on the boards but drop me e-mails with gentle suggestions and nudges that have consistently helped me to improve. I appreciate their input and advice.
No one person can be THE EXPERT, including me.
I shudder when I hear that term.
At our best we are a collaborative community. When I finish my research and publish an update that I just know in my heart is perfect, I sit back and wait for the e-mails that say,
“Hey, great job! But….”
There’s always a ‘but…’ because nobody knows it all and somebody will gently suggest a revision. They are usually right and I am usually wrong. That’s what makes it fun! Learning. Sharing. Community.
So let’s all enjoy the various facets of this interesting hobby and revel in the different directions our interests take us.
I try, but often fail, to follow a few simple rules:
