1) How dumb do the gold peddlers on television believe we Americans are? These companies tell us the monetary system is going to “collapse” and we should purchase gold and gold bars, gold coins et al. We should also transfer our IRAs to a gold IRA. How are we going to pay for this gold? With the collapsing dollar of course. Really???? Maybe we all did fall off the turnip truck.

2) How did Joe Pavlik believe he was going to win the Vice Presidency of our organization? He calls himself a “creep” or “creeper”. Could anyone honestly bring themselves to vote for a creep? Joe, please look up the definition of the word creep. Maybe you should get a new nickname because this one leaves a lot to be desired. Your lack of interest after the election is demonstrating to all they were right not to vote for you. I know you are going to “fix” them for not voting for you. No more pictures! They will see. Sad my friend.

3) I don’t like to brag but I have studied downtown Las Vegas for over 55 years. I know this shows my age but if anyone is going to write about downtown please “discover” a new fact or interesting tidbit to make the writing exciting. Take a lesson from Alan Schuyler whose articles are OUTSTANDING! I do not understand WHY Alan does not receive any formal recognition for his efforts. Hey, BOD what are you waiting for??? The guy has writing talent and knows how to research. Throw him a bone otherwise he might one day quit and that would truly be a loss.

4) I did not go to the convention. I have been to many earlier conventions and remember how they use to be. EVERYONE, bar none, I have recently spoke with gave me feedback that would not be considered positive. I am not going to rehash the same “crap”. Am I worried about the future of our hobby? You bet!!! I simply cannot agree with our President who believes the Museum is going to save our hobby. HELLO! My good friend Doug, do you have a bridge you are going to sell to those who believe? Just kidding Doug, but really, save the hobby???? I don’t think so. Someone is going to have to discover how to convert computer games on phones into casino chips in order to save our hobby.

5) Many of you know I was involved with boxing here in Nevada and California during the Golden Age of Heavyweights (1982-1986). I was often asked then and also currently who I believe was the greatest fighter EVER. I realize this is strictly opinion BUT pound for pound, as a lightweight, it would have to be Roberto Duran. What a fighter. His talent will never be duplicated. No I have not seen the movie.

6) Found an outstanding new restaurant…..The Grape Vine Café at 7501 Lake Mead Boulevard, Suite 120, Las Vegas, Nevada 89128. What’s good? Everything! Great happy hours, appetizers, steaks. Ask for Rudy or Brittany. They will make your visit unforgettable. If you don’t see it on the menu just ask, the chefs will make whatever you want. As usual, I get nothing for this endorsement, nor would I take anything. You can sit outside or inside. The place reminds me a little of the old Café Michelle 40 years ago.

7) I have read very few comments on the boards involving the convention other than GREAT CONVENTION. OK, if one says so. It seems to me members are fearful of voicing their opinion. I was told attendance was down, dealer tables were down, dealer sales were down, and banquet tables were down. If what I was told is true, the only redeeming element………..are the members who give of their time and effort to make the best of the situation. I heard we are moving the location, within South Pointe, of the convention. This cannot be a good sign of things to come.

Restatements of hearsay commentary have no value, credence or credibility to intelligent people. Statements like this are akin to spreading rumors.

8) Since I last wrote anything, Stations Casino has closed the Texas Station poker room. They have boarded up the area and made a depressing casino more depressing. I go in there in the morning to make a few sports bets. My goodness, since old man Fertitta passed away the place has become a morgue. The crap table is run with two dealers. There is only one bar open and the few slot and video poker players seem lost in all the available space. The bathrooms could get better attention and the employees could have a better attitude. I remember some of the best graveyard poker games I ever played in were in the Texas Station poker room. 2 – 4 holdem with all ten players with over buttons so in essence the game was no limit. Pots so BIG a show dog couldn’t jump over them. Five Players waiting, at three in the morning, to get into the game.

9) Years ago my mother, rest her soul, told me that the cartoon strip “Blondie” came about by Dagwood falling asleep at his desk and dreaming about getting married and raising a family. The approach was so successful the cartoon strip never went back to waking Dagwood up and show casing him as single. The rest is history. The people who designed and run the comic strip realize if it works and is successful leave it alone. Don’t try to make it better. I wish this would apply to Las Vegas. Today Las Vegas is trying to make changes for improving business you know make “everything” better. The problem is no one understands or knows what changes will be successful. So, like any business run amok they try whatever idea a casino employed bureaucrat comes up with. We have themed hotels and casinos when in reality no one really cares except the management and owners. We have gaming pits with half naked dancers; female dealers falling out of their tops with management believing this will increase gaming business. We have topless swimming pools that are crowded with the under thirty groups but empty gaming areas. When will the bean counters ever learn? If it isn’t broke don’t fix it!

10) My friend returned from a baseball game at Dodger stadium. He told me a beer was $16.00 as well as a hamburger was also $16.00. A Dodger dog was $6.00 and it looked like a Slim Jim in a bun. I don’t know if what he told me was true or was he just exaggerating. If it is true, how can anyone take their family to a ball game? You would have to take out a loan.

Aside from NCR, you again allow hearsay commentary to be presented as fact! You did no research, which again is readily available on-line as "Goggle it"! Not only are Dodger Dogs still 10", but they now come in about 5 different styles. And the base dog seems to be $5.50 and a beer is $12.50. And rather significantly, Dodger stadium is ranked as the second cheapest MLB outing for 2 people (at $55.10) for 2 tickets, 2 dogs, 2 beers and parking. This in comparison to Fenway Park (Red Sox) at $157.

So Jim, why all my hostility? We first off, I'm in a really bad mood.
