I remember being in Rhyolite around 1985. I believe a bar or store was still open. Anyway, the fellow running the place told us a Gay community wanted to come in and take over the town. Since the city of Beatty controlled the water, they threatened to turn it off if they even tried. Needless to say, they never moved in.
