A year ago, I thought I would try Advanced Mac Cleaner and purchased it on line via PayPal.
I didn't really use the product and deleted it from my system
This morning, I was greeted with an email from PayPro that said my Advanced Mac Cleaner
license had been renewed via PayPal, with another email from PayPal stating basically the
same thing. The charge was $39.95.
I was beyond annoyed and tried to contact PayPal and was greeted with the We're not open yet
recording. I called another phone number that was on the other email and finally reached a
person to whom I vented my outrage. She agreed to cancel the transaction and refund my
payment and sent an email confirming the refund.
A short while ago, I reached PayPal and after navigation through at least 6 recorded messages,
reached a live person. I asked why they would approve a payment for something that I did
not authorize and was told that it was an automatic renewal since I'd ordered it before. I had
this person go through my account for anything else that would constitute an automatic renewal
so that this would not happen again.
I remembered that several years back, I'd paid for a crossword puzzle subscription via PayPal
and it ended up automatically renewed. Since I no longer wanted that particular magazine, I
had PayPal cancel the payment. Since then, I send that company a check when I want to
renew a subscription.
My reason for posting this is to let others know how easily we can be charged for things we didn't
order or renew. For the most part, I have been satisfied with my PayPal dealings and found their
customer service to be helpful.
Now stepping down from podium...
