At our convention this year, I attended most of the educational seminars. After attending the Playing around with my chips again seminar, I felt that my collection needed more organization. So when I got home I started. The Chip Guide is an invaluable source of information for this type of work. I almost immediately ran into problems with not being able to identify UV markings on my chips because I didn't have a UV light. After quick research, I ran down to our local Home Depot and bought the last UV flashlight they had. Small and under $10.00. Great new tool for chip collecting. Now the problems begin, many of my chips have UV markings not yet in the Chip Guide, this is not in anyway complaining about the Chip Guide. That's going to be a lot of extra work to go back and identify so many UV chips, one dated back to (my earliest found) 1988. Another problem I see is that some seem to fade, almost to the point they can not be seen. I hate the Hat and Cane UV markings most UV chips I've seen have this marking, large, small, left, right, ect. I hate the H&C marking! Don't like all the BJ's either, too many like the H&C. I would like to show some examples but don't yet know the techniques to do UV scanning or however it's done. I do like the Venetian (V3583), Big Bold "THE VENETIAN" across the center inlay of the chip. The new 40 Years of Boyd Casino ( not yet ) have an interesting UV markings on the inside edge (on the inlay) of the inserts, one side only. Boomtown (2659) has a moon light up in the desert picture. The Link (D1634) has stripes going through the $5 on the bottom of the inlay. South Point (E8368), Hooters(E5801), Red Rock (E5344)and others have there names all across the center inlay in small text, except that stupid H&C in the middle I hate.
Anyway, put in your thoughts as a dealer, collector, manufacture, whatever.
Techniques to do UV scanning for the Chip guide.
Will tonnes of information will have to be added to the Chip Rack.
Will all this information be necessary?
Let's get some discussion on this topic.
