I needed to go to the bank for the club today so I decided to stay around home for the yard sales. But it was a strange day. I only saw jewelry at one place and there was a guy in front of me asking "how much for everything"? He stole two large boxes of jewelry for $6 but I have no idea if there was anything gold or silver in the boxes since I never had a chance to look at them. I ran into several estate sales where I managed to load up on bug killer and weed killer for the yard. Then I hit a sale that I was thinking would be a waste of time. The ad said "everything is $1" so, of course, I figured that it would be a lot of junk. It turns out that this lady was visiting her mother and broke up with her boyfriend. He told her he would move out while she was gone. He took his furniture, the TV and her dog! But he left everything else. It turns out he worked in IT and fiber cable systems and security. I found out after I got home that he probably left $20-30,000 of equipment in the house. And all she wanted to do was to get rid of it before the end of the day. I bought 3 new in the box security cameras (just like what you see in the casinos), a box of computer memory cards, two GeForce video cards, two 23" computer monitors, a 7" blade Olsen Knife, a 15 pound bag of rice and some books. All for $1 each (or less - I got everything for $12). I checked the cameras on Ebay and they go for at least $120 each! The video cards are $50 each and the knife is somewhere between $70 and $220 although I could not find the exact model for sale (a good sign!) Oh, and both of my desktop computers now have 8GB of memory. The bad news is I passed on the 4 DVR recorders for the cameras and I think they were around $2000 each on Ebay. And I should have followed my instincts and made a second pass though the house because I am sure I missed some more good stuff. Still a nice day at the yard sales.
