GUEST AUTHOR

DEUCES WILD CARD ROOM – AUBURN, CA

By JAMES ERIC FREDNER
When the Towers Card Room opened in Grass Valley one July weekend a couple of years back - I drove up there and stopped off at Deuces Wild which is located on a frontage road off I-80 west of Auburn proper. The casino was closed. A stack of last month's "Card Player" magazines was dumped at the doorstep, and some junk mail sat in the mailbox. The parking lot in front of the casino is paved (part of a small shopping plaza) and the rear lot was gravel. I walked around the lots, looking for any dropped chips. Rarely does this result in a find, but I have found chips often enough to give it a try. But, nothing at all.
On the way back from Towers, I stopped by again, it was around 6 or 7 PM by then and I figured the casino would be "open for the night." But, no. It dawned on me that the place looked closed for good, which turned out to be the truth. Missed it by a couple of months, at most.
Deuces Wild no longer has a current license and I don't know what happened to the building. And where are the chips, you ask? I have no idea! I bought one, a couple of years ago, think it came up on eBay, and I have seen exactly one other such chip since then, in a dealer's album at some show (maybe the February Super Show). Somebody must be "sitting on" at least a thousand of them, but apparently very few got out of the casino while it was in operation; I'd estimate maybe a dozen or two. The truly odd thing is that Deuces Wild is such a "modern" casino, one would think the Sacramento area collectors would have gotten a bunch out.
Its closure was sudden. Rumor had it that the place couldn't compete with all the Indian casinos in the area, but there must have been more to that story.
If you manage to turn up a Deuces Wild from your ChipBoard request, you will truly be One Lucky Reggie. I will keep an eye out for that chip but, I don't really expect to see it again soon.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

PLAYERS CLUB (CASINO)

WHEN I WAS STILL LIVING IN SAN DIEGO WE TOOK AN OVERNIGHT TRIP UP TO SANTA

BARBRA. IT WAS A WELCOME TRIP, OVER THE WEEKEND. MY MAIN OBJECTIVE WAS THE

PLAYERS CLUB IN VENTURA. WE DROVE MOST OF THE WAY FROM SAN DIEGO ALONG THE

COASTAL HIGHWAY, NOT HAVING ANY TIME COMMITMENTS.

WE FOUND A NICE RESTAURANT, AND HAD A NICE DINNER EVERYTHING WAS GOING

ALONG JUST FINE. BUT, IT WAS STARTING TO GET LATE, WE HAD A GPS

ADDRESS FINDER, AND TYPED IN THE PLAYERS CLUB. AFTER ABOUT A HALF HOUR OF

LOOKING AROUND WE FOUND IT.

AT LEAST, WE THOUGHT WE FOUND IT. THERE WAS A TINY PARKING LOT THAT HELD

ABOUT A DOZEN CARS, NO STREET LIGHTS AND I WAS NOT ABOUT TO LEAVE NANCY

SITTING ALONE IN THE CAR IN THE “HOOD”. SO, I GOT AS CLOSE TO THEIR FRONT

DOOR AS I COULD. AND GRABBED HER BY ARM AND HELPED HER UP THE STEPS AND INTO

THE DEN OF INIQUITY KNOWN AS THE PLAYERS CLUB. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, IN THIS

HARVEST; GETTING THERE WAS ONLY HALF THE PROBLEM.

WE WERE GREETED BY THE POKER ROOM MANAGER (OR OWNER?) ASKING WHAT WE

WANTED. WE HAD ALREADY AGREED THAT WE WERE IN OVER OUR HEAD, AND WAS

GOING TO TRY TO GET IN AND OUT ASAP. I STATED MY BUSINESS AND MY REQUESTS,

AND HE LOOKED AT ME WITH MINOR CURIOSITY OR ANNYOYANCE, BUT APPARANTLY

HE WAS “THE MAN” AND DID GIVE ME THE CHIPS I REQUESTED. AS I LOOKED AROUND

THE ROOM OF ABOUT 6 TABLES THERE MUST HAVE BEEN 10 OR 12 SHARKS WITH FINS,

AND THE REST SPOKE SPANISH. IT WAS A VERY TOUGH LOOKING CROWD.

I STUFFED THE CHIPS IN MY CARGO PANTS, MY HARVESTING OUT FIT, AND WE GOT THE

HECK OUT OF DODGE AS SOON AS WE COULD. I UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE SOME VERY

NICE

DIGS NOW, THEY HAVE A NEW MODERN ROOM. I DID NOT GET ENOUGH CHIPS AT THIS

TIME…REGGIE

FREE, FREE, FREE or NOT

I will endeavor to provide these free personal chips shown below to everyone that makes even a minimal order. There are a few of other peoples personals, these were acquired by mistake or given to me by someone other than the sponsor of the chip. They need a good home, and to those of you that are thinking of having a personal chip made for the first time let me say it always a good idea. We have 2 or 3 people that make these within our club. This is always fun around a poker table, people are genuinely impressed with the fact that “you” have your own personal poker chip.
So let me elaborate a little more on the way you can own one or more of these chips shown below. First they are FREE to any one that makes a purchase.
Also, if you do not want to make a purchase and are more into trading, I will trade any personal chip for any chip in slightly used condition; that is not older than 6 months, common, or special it makes no difference. Please know I will trade personals for personals that I do not have.
Hope we can find some common ground to get these nice looking personals into your hands. Thank you for your interest in our ‘Very Fun Hobby” Sincerely, Reggie
