When I look at values in the TCR and actual "sold for" prices on Ebay, it appears that the real market value is about 40-50% of lowest TCR values for 90% of the chips sold. This indicates to me that either the TCR "values" are highly inflated OR that the hobby is presently experiencing a "bear" market. I am not a dealer and have never purchased from a dealer. I understand supply and demand and I understand each of the factors that might determine a chip's value as the authors of TCR succinctly articulate. The "gap" between real prices and TCR values lead me to these questions: What is the state of the hobby? Is it growing in numbers of collectors? What is it's future? Is a collection an investment or simply something to enjoy? Just a few of my thoughts with a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning. Would love to hear other thoughts about these or other questions about the hobby. A final thought ... An M value chip in the TCR is priced at $100-$124. That same chip filling in a missing space in my collection ... PRICELESS! Thanks to those who may add to these thoughts. What a great hobby it is!
