The old Players CLUB on Route 33 was so crowded, you couldn't swing a cat. I brought in a tabby and tried it, once. Ventura County was one of the first California counties to pass laws effectively banning card rooms, which formed the model for the City of San Diego's current cardroom laws. The businesses could not be sold or transferred, think advertising was strictly curtailed. A challenge was filed by one of the cardrooms (in Moorpark, as I recall), and the cardroom lost.
Players is the last cardroom in all of Ventura County, and it took a special meeting of the City Council to allow it to move, to the south-east side of the city on Auto Park Drive. The cardroom dropped the word Club in favor of Casino and set out glue traps to catch all the remaining cars in the former Volvo dealership.
Incidentally, Players Casino has something that no other casino I've ever visited has. Anyone care to venture a guess as to what it is?
Jay - if you have a remaining Bachelor Chip at the show, I'd be interested in it!
