between collecting, accumulating, and saving items...
We "collect" many things that have a Nevada casino name on them. To us these items have value (some have intrinsic value; some don't...) because they're from a Nevada casino...they help connect us to something we're interested in.
A co-worker of mine told me a few days ago that he has 20 boxes of Belvita cookies in his pantry. I don't consider the cookies a "collectible", because he didn't buy them to "collect" them. He bought them because they were on sale... He buys/accumulates grocery items when they're on sale...and he eats them.
If you saved/kept your hotel shampoo bottles to use them, I wouldn't consider them a collectible. If you saved them as souvenirs of your travels, I'd consider them collectibles...to you.
We have several bottles of shampoo, and bars of soap, from Nevada casinos...to us they're collectibles; to you they're probably garbage. One of the bars of soap is from the Sal Sagev Hotel. When we bought it, it was accompanied by a note that said the seller's in-laws (I think) had saved it as a souvenir from their honeymoon in 1945.
Many of our items, including bars of soap, aren't from casinos...they're from hotels or restaurants that are/were connected to casinos, at some point. To us they still belong in our casino collection. That's the best part of collecting casino memorabilia...everyone can define their collections however they want to.
No bad feelings...just a different point of view
BTW...I've enjoyed seeing the chips that you've been posting. Most of them wouldn't fit in our collection, so to me they have no value, but they're still beautiful.
