One true Panamanian relic is the church off Via Espania. It's the site of what the locals call, "The Church Of The Golden Alter." It history is extremely fascinating and to see this special, iconic church is well worth the effort.
You will see San Blas Indians in the downtown market areas selling their handmade goods. One item they sell besides beads is the multi-colored, textile cloth patches that are used by one of the more than 400 tribes to denote their clan. These are called molas and when framed with a burlap background, they make outstanding pieces of highly-collectible native art. Here's a link on the Kuna and other tribes that inhabit the island off the Panamanian coasts both Atlantic and Pacific.
