In the last two week I have had two separate phishing attempts by email to get personal info from me regarding credit cards. In both cases I did not respond to he emails but rather called the credit card companies directly.
First attempt was from a card that I had cancelled years ago. They wanted me to verify info on adding another person to the card.
Second attempt was from a card I currently have - asking me for info on a possible fraudulent charge.
Both attempts looked real with logos, etc. When I called the credit card companies directly - they both told me the emails were probably fraud attempts and they had not sent them to me and in the one case I didn't even have a card with them (which I knew).
Also both card companies, asked me to forward the emails to their fraud protection units so they could check these emails out further. I forwarded both emails as requested.
It amazes me what lengths these scammers will go to in an effort to obtain info.
Bottom line - be very careful in answering emails from credit card companies even if they look very legit and official.
Take care,
