I encourage all computer users to at least invest in an external USB backup disk drive. They are cheap and they usually come with programs that automatically backup all your data to the external drive. If your disk drive fails, it is just a matter of getting a new disk drive and restoring from the backup drive. Then you are back in business.

Disk drives are mechanical devices and will eventually fail due to heat, abuse and just ordinary wear and tear. You should be prepared for the failure when it comes.
