In 2004, Grey Eagle, Frank Hernandez, as Attorney General, initiated correspondence to citizens of the SCNT regarding the planned Raven Casino Project. This was the first communication from the SCNT that many of the Cherokees had received since joining.
The Cherokee Band of Texas owns 2 acres of land on 1-20, near Dyess Air Force Base west of Abilene, Texas which is planned as a site for our Cherokee Tobacco Store and service station. Some day, after we have achieved federal recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs this site could be an excellent location for a Cherokee Casino and Hotel.
The band is presently seeking documentation from its members to establish Cherokee lineage and thus qualify for recognition from the Department of the Interior as a Native American tribe.
