Did the Cactus League trip with my son 4 years ago when he was 14. Had an amazing time, with lifelong memories. Saw 7 games in 5 different ballparks over 6 days. Yes, even did a day/night doubleheader at two different ballparks.
Cactus League is so much better to visit than the Grapefruit League, IMO, since everything is compact. Unlike Florida where you have to do tons more driving.
Hope you visit other ballparks than just Goodyear. For an "old time" Spring training feel try Surprise where the Rangers and Royals play..or at least they did when we went. My son even won an autographed Nolan Ryan baseball when we were there. Peoria was very nice too..Padres/Mariners. My favorite of the Cactus League parks is Camelback Ranch. Kind of in the middle of nowhere, but with fantastic amenities, where the Dodgers and White Sox play.
My son and I are both diehard Dodger fans, so we may be biased. Wish I had a chance to visit Vero Beach back in the day.
Take lots of photos and have a great time making memories with your grandson..
