We too drove to Vegas at night & coming from the east stayed at St. George or Cedar City for the 5 a.m. trip to Sin City; when I was 13 we stayed at the Frontier when it had the pool and big diving boards out front; while my folks slept I hit the pool watching the beautiful bevies and wishing I was 16 or so. Then in 1960 driving a Peugeot stopped at a gas station--108! The attendant started to fill the tank-left the hose in-gas poured out all over and under the car. The kid said, "Move your car." I said, You move it" and walked my wife and I out of the way. On the earlier trip from Dakota we stayed at the New Frontier--moving walk ways; cottage; arriving late the restaurant had only some chicken, mashed potatoes and beans--great meal: $1. We had $5 for gambling; I gave my wife a silver dollar and she put it on a $5 slot on the wheel & won it--wouldn't share it with me saw Billy Eckstein free at the Desert Inn, free drinks w/a 25 cent tip (big spenders we were).
