There were some dollar gaming tokens issued in the 1960s, but the truth is, dollar machines were still pretty rare at that time. "Ike" Dollars were used from 1973-1979. In 1979, casinos began issuing their own tokens en masse. Before long, even supermarkets and 7-11s were issuing their own gaming tokens. The transition to tickets was a much slower process. Some places, like the California Hotel, still use gaming tokens in their dollar machines.
