A construction worker supposedly found the knife and turned it over to a L. A. motorcycle cop guarding a nearby movie shoot. The officer did inform his superior at the West Los Angeles station and somebody downtown, he claims he was told that since the Simpson trial was over (criminal acquittal), they weren't interested in the find. He then tossed the knife in a bag and kept it around his house for 18 years.
Frankly I've read better stories on Reggie Gummer's Weekly Chip Harvest Bedtime Stories. Who keeps worthless rusty knives in bags in their houses for a generation? At this point the LAPD released a press statement saying that it wasn't even the right kind of knife (small folding one) to have been used in the murders.
I'd really like to know: how come some construction worker cannot find a Normandie Casino Knife-Fork-and-Spoon chip buried in that same garden? THAT would be interesting.
