When a casino plan to offer gaming tables they produce two kinds of all the denominations from $1, $2.50, $5.00 etc to higher denominations.
For many reasons - one I know is for control and security - case in point, 2:00 am when the casino floor is practically empty - early morning two snatchers hit the "high limit" table - two guys hit the tables separately and ran out to the front door with a waiting taxi with the $5000 and some $1000 chips in their pockets, "pocketful".
The casino manager and the security personnel did not as much panic on the chips - management knew that they were worthless - what they did was called the cage cashiers to replaced and changed from the primary racks in used with the secondary racks. The robber did not know that by the time they came back to the casino to cash their loot they DGE from the Casino Commission with plainclothes police officers "snatched the snachters" - the casino was able account every chip before noon on the same day.
Nothing of value or financial was lost except the direct people involved were fired for not in control and were not able to secure the property.
The casino recently has implemented the RFID or magnetic or something that the chips can easily be identified when you pass out of the doors. It is so sophisticated now a days that even house chips/roulettes valuations are electronically embedded in some chips.
Here are two chips sample this might be but they are live chips as of now in Greektown Casino, Detroit Michigan, but soon they will be gone once the new owner - JACK the casino changed their racks - both primary and secondary racks. Take a look - the process of selection of what is to be primary and secondary racks are very arbitrary.
You will notice that all the Four Winds Casinos in less than a year of use in the primary are also releasing to the table the secondary racks - see these casinos "snappers" either in my website or the ChipGuide under their entry.
You will asked why? Ask the casino managers who are members of our club.
