Got a chuckle out of your Cage Comments. I have experienced them all, too. Like the time I went to a casino to get some $2 chips and was told they never, ever made such a denomination . . . and I have one in my album, bought from the same place but a year earlier. Best experience, the night I wanted to buy some $2 and $3 drop chips at a cardroom. The cashier said sure. A dealer standing behind me with his rack growled that he could not sell them. Cashier said no one told him that and he didn't care what the dealer said. Dealer and cashier almost came to fisticuffs (I guess that's why the cage is caged off). Meanwhile the Casino Manager is standing within earshot, but looking intently at a table game. I made it out of there with a couple of drop chips but never tried again.
But I guess the point is, if the casino personnel can't figure out whether a particular chip is still "live" or capable of being sold, how can the ChipGuide?
