Hawthorne's VFW Post 2313 Member, Chief Petty Officer Edward Byers will be awarded the MOH for his actions in Afghanistan in 2012 at the White House on Feb 29th, becoming the 11th living service member to be awarded the Medal. He's a Navy Seal. Many Seals and other operators come to the Hawthorne area to train quite often I've found out. While he doesn't live here, he and 2 other SEALS, signed up for life membership status at the POST while training at Mt Grant here...a Photo of him and his SEAL teammates is hanging on the wall at the POST.
