they did make a group of fakes UC chips originally trying to fool collectors (it was later then you mention) and the better pieces were sold to collectors knowingly that these were never used at the club and some of the better ones were being sold by Garret not long ago, again knowing and telling buyers they were fake. Then we know of a third group, which is probably where this chip was made, fake & bad.
The club only made Ivories for their use very early century/late last century. Around that time they also used MOP and soon after by 1910-20's they made regular chips, never to use MOP or ivory again. Most of that was found in notes and writings of old club members. Most chip collectors & historians there know all about the Union Club and the Casinos Espanoles, the two most important clubs throughout Cuba's History up until the Castro regime. Unfortunately we do not know much about the rest, at least until they open the libraries again.
