I collect Northern Nevada, and I organize first city (for larger cities) or geographic area. I have Reno, Sparks, Tahoe, 395-South, and Small Towns (everything east of Sparks). Within a major group I then organize by casino alphabetically. For each casino I sort by House/NCV/Roulette/LE. The first three groups are sorted by denom and then release date. LEs are sorted by released date then denom, to keep chips released together stored together. This is also how my website is organized. www.RenoCasinoChips.com
I've been collecting for 18 years and I have agonized excessively over other sort options. For some chips I would like to keep "issues" together, because some groups, such as the Reno Horseshoe hub mold chips, look so good together. But for other chips the organization is less clearly defined, and I also like to keep the variations of a particular chip together. So in the end, I've found my current sorting to be easy to remember and easy to find the chip I'm looking for.
But this isn't like arranging pianos. It's not that hard to rearrange chips if you change your mind later.
