I am happy to report that we survived another "Bad Day on the River". Luckily the tide did not rise any further last night at High Tide and we did not get any water in the house. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers !!! This was probably one of the worst flooding events that I have experienced in 70 years - I would say in the top 3 or 4. Lewes, Delaware the town where I was born, about 10 miles from here got the highest tide and flooding in their history.
This morning I woke up to a sight that I had never seen in 70 years the flood waters in our back yard had frozen overnight and the ground was covered with a fresh coat of snow !!!
Today the sun was bright and the skies were blue and the river had returned to it's normal tranquil state. What a difference a day makes. There is still about 3 feet of water on the road in back of our house and it is slowly draining away. I figure that we will be able to get out of the driveway by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
The National Guard had to rescue a stranded motorist in front of our house about an hour ago. She had tried to go thru the flood waters, Nancy just looked outside again and told me that the water on the road is starting to freeze over again.
We are glad to be back to near normal again but have a lot of debris to clean up that has floated in to the yard.
I will be heading to Vegas on Saturday for my 2 week trip as planned.
Take care,
Jerry
