My wife and me have been saving pennies for nearly 50 years now. In fact, the hoard has gotten so heavy it has been a huge burden moving them -- I guess that's why we haven't moved for the last 30 years. In regards to the question about doing away with the coined penny -- that will be okay. Cents need to be preserved in some form like sales tax structure. My two cents!
