The Lone Oak was on the corner of Auburn Blvd and Watt Ave and at that time that was considered out in the country. Lloyd told me that he hired Sonny to be a dealer at this little joint and she turned out to be the best dealer he ever had. I guess she was a good looking young lady with an outgoing personality and she could get a game up when no one else could because guys just liked being at her table. When Lloyd opened up the 40 Grand he was going to make Sonny a partner but she was not 21 so he had to get her mother to sign for her.

The 49er club was not owned by Lloyd. It was owned by a good friend of his by the name of Alva Rich and located at 3rd and K Sts which was skid row at the time. I had lunch with both of these guys about 10 years ago and showed them my Sacramento collections which brought back a lot of good memories and many stories. Lloyd was sick at the time with cancer and shortly afterwards he passed away. Alva Rich was very helpful to me in locating lots of local chips and a few Nevada. His ex wife owned the Lunar Station and would not part with a single chip so I asked him if he could help me out in this area. He did, and I got a complete set and she would not take a dollar for them but she made me promise her that I would not tell anyone in the hobby her name of where she lived so please don't ask.
