I like the odd stuff, collectible by others or not. I like all sorts of casino collectibles. If it is from Aruba, and not too expensive, it's a good chance I want it. Anyway, I recently received a nice e-mail from Lyle O, letting me know there was a floor sweeper for sale by Travis Anderson on eBay that had an Aruba Sheraton stamp on it. First, I have never seen a floor sweeper with an Aruban chip stamp involved. Second, although the Aruba Sheraton was open from 1968 to 1980, there is not a lot of stuff from there, including chips. Probably the most common stuff are the matches. In any case, the only roulette from there I have ever seen for sale was sold by Archie Black when he was selling off his really impressive Caribbean collection. I wasn't able to get that one, and I don't really expect to be getting one anytime soon. The look like this (image from chip guide):
That is probably Archie's chip. I copied it into my wanted file some time ago, so I'm not sure. A nice looking hot stamp. It's pretty high on my wanted list. So, I checked out the eBay auction and sure enough, it was a floor sweeper with an Aruba Sheraton roulette stamp below a non-negotiable stamp with a native american in the middle. It's now mine, and here it is:
It is possibly as close as I will ever come to owning a Sheraton roulette, and I am very happy to add it to my collection. Thank you Travis for offering it for sale, and thank you Lyle O for thinking of me when you saw it and letting me know. It was really a nice thing to do.
