Interesting to note that both the El Rancho and the Forty Grand were located on the old highway US 40. The old Lincoln Highway was dotted with clubs all the way to the Utah state line. There is a bar/restaurant in Pollock Pines on US 50 that is called the Fifty Grand that at one time either had a poker room or had one next door (GRCR - Gold Rush Card Room). Makes you wonder if the location on US 40 was the reason for the Forty Grand name.
