I was told this week that the refiners get 19 gallons of gas and 12 gallons of diesel from a 42 gallon barrel of oil. So if you are getting 31 gallons of product for $31 then it is about $1 per gallon. That does not include any overhead, refining cost, transportation or profit. The cash RBOB price yesterday was $1.09 per gallon of gas. Normally transportation and profit add at least $.35 per gallon to the cost of the wholesale gas. Gas was $1.45 in a town near us today. But I also saw gas for $1.99 on the way to Tunica this morning.
