It also depends on the definition of "variety" that the author of the catalog uses. The Atlantic City chip catalog is published by a different author than The Chip Rack which lists Nevada chips. To my knowledge, The "Club" has never attempted to address what a "variety" is to be, but authors would still be free to used their own criteria for varieties, colors, value codes, numbering system etc.
