GC Pearl Monogram revisited.

Regarding the GC pearl chips.

I researched them in 2012, I thought I found the answer when I saw this token. Same monogram… not so fast…

From research done in France (see below)

Dear,

Sir,

According to the "trade directory Didot-Bottin" it was at 14 Boulevard de Clichy in 1925 a "Gentil, music auditions" or "Gentil, musical auditions."
The name "Montmartre-Audition" appeared in 1951, with "phono discs" and "disks (store)"; it disappears in 1975.

The "official directory of telephone subscribers", at the same address, same name as this gives a fuller and slightly different form (and probably more accurate), "Gentile, Charles." It is mentioned for the last time in 1978.

So there seems to be no doubt that Charles Gentil (e) was installed at a record store 14 boulevard de Clichy, from 1925 to 1978. On the token "CG / Auditions Montmartre / Paris", the letters "CG" are the initials of his name (not those of Charles Gaumont, as is often said on the internet).

There has never been a casino at 14 boulevard de Clichy and we did not find any casino, playroom or another in the name of Charles Gentil (e).
Obviously, there is no relation between the token "Montmartre Auditions" and plate "CG / Thousand Francs". You will probably note that the letter G is not exactly the same on the chip and on the plate, which crosses the (horizontal bar) G is significantly longer.

Other research does not allow us to know which casino belonged plate francs. Certainly there are in France, Aix-les-Bains, a Casino "Grand Circle" ( ); similarly, the Granville Casino is still in operation ( ). On the other hand, was known in Paris private gaming circle to as "Grand Circle", "founded in 1819, rue de Grammont, transferred, in 1829, 16 Boulevard Montmartre, and in 1937, 12 rue de Pressburg" ("Directory Full Circle", Paris, 1938, p. 59) and that disappeared at the end of last century. But these are only hypotheses for which we have no evidence; this plate may as well have been in use in a Belgian casino, Swiss, or located in a former French colony in Asia, Africa or the West Indies.

Regretting not being able to bring you more information, please accept, Excellency, the assurances of our highest consideration.
