My grandfather, H. H. Lewin, discovered oil on Signal Hill in the '20's. All of the wells at that time were his under his corporate name (APEX OIL Co.) He lost majority control of the company in 1933, the earthquake of that year destroyed much of the company buildings; and I chanced to be born that same year. I think he felt I might some how to be the cause of his disasters.
