Yes, they are different. What I thought was interesting is that there are movies with fantasy chips and with fantasy currency; with real chips and real currency. The prop-master and the prop supplier have different rules to deal with.

What caused me to look into the subject was the post by Roy Klein and the movie Last Holiday that appears to have used real casino chips in at least some scenes. That doesn't appear to happen very often, at least in movies filmed in USA. When it does happen, would you call the chips "props" since they are not the property of the production company (at least not for very long)?

What about tv shows like Breaking Bad that used stacks of real currency. Are those "props" to a collector?
