Before Col. Harland Sanders opened his own chain of restaurant, he sold his fried chicken recipe to other restaurants across the country. One of those restaurants was the Golden Rooster Room inside Dick Graves' Nugget.

Another feature of the Golden Rooster Room was a 15-pound solid gold statue of a rooster, on display in the restaurant.

Across the street, Graves opened Trader Dick's, a Polynesian-themed restaurant, during the height of the Tiki fad.
